Counselling offers “a safe, confidential place to talk to a trained professional about your feelings and concerns. You might talk about difficult events in your life or your relationships and emotions. Our standard fee is £35 – this is for your assessment and all subsequent sessions.
Please note that sessions with a staff member will be £40 – if you are allocated a staff member we will inform you prior to payment being agreed.
There are also concessionary rates available but an application form would need to be completed to assess eligibility.
You may be eligible for six free sessions of counselling if you are aged between 14-25 and have a Birmingham GP. We can also offer six free sessions for people aged over 25 living in Birmingham and who have a GP in the Birmingham South Central Clinical Commissioning Group. Your eligibility for free sessions will be determined at assessment.
The majority of our counsellors are students studying to degree or masters level in either counselling or psychotherapy. We also have some experienced counsellors who see clients within the service, who are either lecturers from the University’s Counselling and Psychotherapy department or clinical staff who work for Newman Health & Wellbeing. You will be matched to the best counsellor for your requirements following an assessment
Newman Health & Wellbeing counsellors work with clients in an integrative way using a mix of Humanistic theory, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Psychodynamic approach. Your counsellor will work with you to determine the most effective way of working.
All sessions are 50 minutes with your counsellor.
We recommend that you would commit to working with your counsellor for a minimum of six sessions.
It is recommended that you attend counselling weekly to receive maximum benefit.
